Major-General G. A. Prendergast.

The death occurred last week, at his residence, Bramham-gardens, S.W., of Major-General Prendergast, aged 95.

He was the son of Guy Lushington Prendergast, was educated at Eton, and commissioned in the 5th Bengal Cavalry in 1850, two
days after his 16th birthday.  On the previous day he was confirmed in the presence of the Duke of Wellington, who shook hands
with him afterwards.  His regiment was disbanded in the Mutiny, and Lieutenant Prendergast was sent in command of a squadron
of Mooltani Cavalry to the assistance of the Rajah of Powani, defending that place against an attack by rebels in October, 1858.
Later he served in Oude in the campaign of 1858-59.

From 1864 to 1883 he was commandant of the 15th Bengal Cavalry.  During the Afghan War of 1879 he was in command of the
Thal Chotiali Field Force, and later of the Vitakri Field Force in Beluchistan; and was commended by the Government of India
for his services.  From 1883 to 1886 he commanded at Firozpur.  He became brevet-colonel in 1881 and major-general in 1891.
In 1904 he was appointed Colonel of the 15th Bengal Lancers, the regiment he had so long commanded.

General Prendergast married, in 1858, Catherine, daughter of the late Major P. Cortlandt Anderson; she died in 1902, without
issue.
